The Nokia 6170 was introduced in 2004. InfoSync reviews the Nokia 6170 and has this to say about cellphone, “The Nokia 6170 offers GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz functionality, Push-to-Talk, HSCSD, GPRS Class 10, and EDGE for high-speed data connectivity. Supporting WAP 2.0, the installed browser is capable of viewing XHTML pages and JPEG/PNG images. An infrared port enables PAN connectivity, whilst Bluetooth is unfortunately not available. ”
Mobile-Review reviews the Nokia 6170 and writes, “The inner display is 65K TFT and has the resolution of 128×160 pixels (31.7×38.9 mm). The picture looks well. If to compare the screen with other manufacturers it’s evidently inferior to Motorola, Samsung, Sharp, Sony Ericsson but beats the ones in Siemens and other models by Nokia. It behaves well in the sun and fades not so much. The screen shows up to 6 text lines and two service ones. The grains are rather large and are noticeable when loading large pictures (the device is much better than last models by Siemens and takes intermediate position).”
CNET reviews the Nokia 6170 and has this to say about features, “The Nokia 6170 comes with a respectable set of features. You get a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers, a street address, an e-mail address, a Web address, memos, and a voice tag (the SIM card holds an additional 250 contacts). You can assign contacts to caller groups or pair them with a picture for caller ID purposes. Only groups, however, can be paired with one of the 20 polyphonic ring tones or five message tones. Other goodies include a vibrate mode, PC syncing, text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a speakerphone, a countdown timer, voice dialing and commands, a world clock, a temperature converter, a calendar, a to-do list, a memo pad, a stopwatch, instant messaging, and a 3-minute voice recorder. Unexpected finds were a rudimentary translator, which converts basic words into Spanish, French, or Portuguese, and Nokia’s My Presence service. You also get the ability to wirelessly exchange business card information, a password-protected electronic wallet for storing credit card numbers and other sensitive information, and an infrared port. On the other hand, Bluetooth was a noticeable omission for a handset this expensive.”
GSMArena reviews the Nokia 6170 and writes about display, “The new display comes with an innovated graphical interface. It derives from new Series 40 models but it can furnish more information arranged in a different way. In the main menu you can choose between icons matrix style and a text list with pictures (four items per page). Next menu levels are in text form only.”
