LG U400 Review

LG U400LG The U400 supports the 900, 1800, and 1900MHz GSM frequency bands in addition to the 2100MHz UMTS band. AbsoluteGadget reviews the LG U400 and writes, “The screen is a very good size and very bright. In fact, the battery life seems to be very good for a 3G phone (well they do seem to drain the batteries compared to GSM, don’t they) so no complaints from this reviewer regarding not being able to make a call because the battery is dead, it didn’t once happen when reviewing this phone.” 3G reviews the LG U400 and has this to say about it, “the two-inch QVGA display is very striking with crisp detail, while its video call performance was a pleasant surprise. We made a call to the new Sony Ericsson V630, and the quality was enough to wax lyrical about the virtues of video telephony. Well, almost. Obviously, mugshot pixelation did occur but for the best part the headshots were quite clear. Past experience testing 3G phones has taught us to use headphones to engage in a two-way conversation but for once you can rely on the Neo’s built in speakers. The audio quality pumped out was loud and discernible.”

TrustedRreviews reviews the LG U400 and writes, “The 3 network’s 3Player can be used to download tracks and play any stored on the handset’s internal memory. It is hardwired to the left softkey. It didn’t seem to like tunes I’d saved to a microSD card, though. To play these I had to use another built in music player. This isn’t located in the Multimedia applications group which houses the Melody Composer and DJ-ing software. I had to go to the ‘My Stuff’ area, navigate to the contents of my memory card, then choose to play. Obtuse, though its fine once you are past the learning curve… There is plenty more by way of software including calendar and To-Do management, email, Java support – but no pre-installed games - voice recorder, video record & playback, currency & unit converters, alarm clock and a memo facility. LG provides synchronisation software for your PC.”

Gizmodo reviews the LGU400 and reports, “Is the iPod scroll-wheel that great for navigation? LG seems to think so, and is releasing the U400 slider phone with an off-center scroll-wheel. It’s got 3G video calling, Bluetooth, stereo speakers, 2 megapixel camera and a microSD slot for added storage.”

Mobile Phones UK reviews the LG U400 and writes about music capabilities, “Music is the big theme of the U400. The phone comes with a stereo music player (and video player) with high audio quality. The music player can handle most formats of music, including MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+. The jog wheel lets you access music very easily, much like an iPod. Stereo headphones are supplied in the sales package, and the phone offers support for Bluetooth stereo headphones. Music can be stored on the phone, using the generous 68 Mbytes of internal memory plus the MicroSD memory card slot for extra storage (memory card not supplied), or can be streamed from 3.”

GoodGearGuide reviews the LG U400 and writes, “U400 is the first phone we’ve reviewed with a scroll wheel. Unfortunately, while the idea is good in theory, LG’s implementation of this could use a little work. For starters, the scroll wheel doesn’t sit in the centre of the phone - it is pushed towards the left hand side and this places the selection buttons off centre. For example, the answer key is located where the right selection key usually is, so it takes a lot of time to get used to. After two days of use, we were still pressing the answer key to access the Planet 3 menu. We can’t understand why LG just didn’t position the scroll wheel in the centre of the handset as this would have made its operation much simpler.”
